HBO Casting Call

A few weeks ago, I was forwarded an email from a friend who had gotten the notice that HBO was going to do some sort of Asian-American documentary, snapshots of interesting Asian-Americans from all walks of life, and put these experiences together for Asian heritage month.

We were supposed to submit short stories that portrayed how being Asian affected your life journey. This was cool because I personally watch HBO all the time (I.e. Trublood, Big Love, Sex and the City and Soprano reruns, Curb Your Enthusiasm, How to Make It in America etc).

BTW, Big shoutout to Ieyoka, whose music got on How to Make It in America! If you don’t know, she’s an incredibly talented artist that works with Francis Phan (uber-talented and reliable producer, Iphone app maker, overall Renaissance man–he’s the person who forwarded this very email btw). Her music is playing in the scene where Rachael is thinking of quitting her job and talking to her boss after she meets her friend for lunch.

By the way, shoutout to Kid Cudi for being on the show. If you don’t know, his producer is Dot da Genius, who produced the smash hit single ‘Day n Nite. You can find Dot da Genius and the usual Headbanga Muzik crew at the Brewery. (JR, Lex, Jay, Eva, Brint–big ups to them).

Okay that was a side track. Sorry.So I decided to submit two stories to HBO. They were short stories; examples from my life being a Korean-American singer/songwriter. I got a call, my stories were read, and I was asked to casting call! That was pretty cool~

So I went to the casting call at HBO, and I was running late, and guess what? My freakin’ heel breaks off my shoe By this time, I am not a happy camper. But I did my best, even though I did babble a bit. Anyway.

(So I know they were shooting in March, so I know I didn’t get picked But you know, there were a lot of really compelling stories I heard with the people there, so I’m sure it is much deserved. Keep your eyes open for the HBO Asian-American Heritage piece coming soon).

But all’s well that ends well. Coming back from the My boyfriend felt sorry for me that I was limping along 42nd Street (Times Square) in my shot heels. So he bought me some rockin’ boots. (Even better…they were awesome and on sale. shhhh
